
How to Clean Your Roof
You might be looking at you roof everyday and asking yourself how can you clean it up properly? Here’s a few do’s and dont’s that we highly recommend:
Don’t
- Do not use a pressure washer, which will loosen shingles and seriously damage your roof.
- Do not clean your roof on a sunny day, which will cause the bleach solution to evaporate too quickly, limiting it’s cleansing effects.
- Don’t wait until your roof is covered in algae or moss take action.
- Do not use slippery shoes or unappropiate clothing.
Do
- Clean your roof on a cloudy, calm day when the wind isn’t blowing and there’s no threat of rain.
- Use a ladder and if possible, clean the roof while standing on it which is safe and a good option to clean clogged gutters as well.
- Trim back overhanging branches to expose the roof to sunlight.
- Clear debris such as branches and leaves from its surfaces with a leaf blower.
- Keep your steps on the lower part of the tiles or the area that is upheld & supported from underneath.
- Use a sprayer attached to garden hose that’s filled with equal parts of chlorine bleach and water.
- Arranging your work with the goal that when the cleaning is being performed, you will stand on dry and flat parts of the roof.
- Clean your roof on a cloudy, calm day when the wind isn’t blowing and there’s no threat of rain.
